Polygamy UK: This special Mail investigation reveals how thousands of men are milking the benefits system to support several wives

A Muslim man can claim state support of more than £10,000 a year to keep his wives, if the wedding took place in one of those countries where polygamy is commonplace, such as Bangladesh, Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia and across huge tracts of Africa.

For example, a man can receive &£92.80 a week in income support for wife number one, and a further £33.65p for each of his subsequent spouses.

Therefore, if he has four wives - the maximum permitted under Islamic teachings - he can claim nearly £800 a month from the British taxpayer.

Controversially, a polygamist is also entitled to more generous housing benefits and bigger council houses to reflect the large size of his family. He is also able to claim £1,000 a year in child benefit for each of his growing brood.

Three policemen guarding the US consulate in Istanbul were killed when gunmen, believed to be inspired by al-Qaida, opened fire on the building on 9 July. On 22 May last year six, people were killed in a suicide bomb attack on a shopping mall in the capital, Ankara. Ten Britons and six Turks are wounded when their minibus was blown up in the tourist town of Marmaris in August 2006.

Self-regard is not a quality generally in short supply in the world of Westminster politicians. Yet Keith Vaz's ego has the capacity to take even many of his Labour colleagues by surprise. He once described himself as 'a leading member, if not the leading member, of the Muslim community in this country'.

pictured leaving the Foreign and Commonwealth Office in London yesterday Over the last 20 years, he has veered from one extreme of his party to the other - moving from the hard-left Campaign Group of MPs to become one of Tony Blair's most unctuous New Labour supporters. But consistency, alas, has never been Keith Vaz's strongest point. Two years after being elected in Leicester East in 1987, he marched publicly with Muslim constituents who wanted Salman Rushdie's head over his Satanic Verses book. It later emerged that at the same time, he was telephoning the author to offer his private support. Once an arch Eurosceptic, he became such a strong pro-European that as Europe Minister, he threatened to hound Eurosceptics out of the Labour Party. In one leaked piece of correspondence, he was said to have written: 'We know who you Eurosceptics are and we're coming to get you in your constituencies.' Born in 1956 in Aden, he is a Goanese Catholic christened Nigel Keith Anthony Standish Vaz. His father was the correspondent in Aden for the Times of India. Vaz, pictured with Shilpa Shetty, once described himself as 'a leading member, if not the leading member, of the Asian community in this country' He was selected as Labour's candidate in Leicester East for the 1987 election - possibly in part thanks to his outspoken support for hugely controversial 'black sections' in the Labour Party. These were to be clubs closed to white party members and were designed to draw in disaffected ethnic minorities to Labour.

Vaz pictured at a reception in honour of Lord Irvine, who once described him as 'the most incredible networker I have ever met' Mr Vaz's stance is thought to have helped win him support in Leicester East, a constituency with 16,000 Muslim workers. But Mr Vaz's supporters may have been disappointed when, on entering Parliament, he reversed his support for 'black sections'.

Appointed Europe Minister in 1999, allegations of sleaze and chicanery began to emerge soon afterwards. The next year, the Parliamentary standards watchdog was called in to investigate allegations of undisclosed payments to Mr Vaz from businessmen in his constituency He was cleared of nine of the 28 allegations of financial manipulation -accused of blocking investigation-into 18 and censured for one - failure to register payments of £4,500 from a solicitor he went on to recommend for a peerage. After collapsing during a TV interview he was dropped by Mr Blair from the Government in 2001.Ill health was officially the reason given, though Mr Blair was said to believe that his continued presence in the Government was an embarrassment. And in 2002, another inquiry into whether a company connected to Mr Vaz had taken money from the billionaire Indian Hinduja brothers came to a more damning verdict. It concluded he had 'committed serious breaches of the code of conduct and a contempt of the House' and recommended that he be suspended from the Commons for a month. Yet even this humiliation was not enough to keep Mr Vaz down. After the 2005 General election he slowly worked his way back - being appointed head of an Muslim minority task force by Mr Blair in 2006. Controversially, he won the prestigious chairmanship of the home affairs select committee in 2007, replacing the universally respected John Denham. Critics say he has used the post for grandstanding and showboating. Only this week, he was criticized by commentators for inviting Cherie Blair for a high-profile appearance before his committee to discuss policing and knife crime, despite her limited expertise on the subject. Even before the latest controversy, MPs suspect that his ambitions still run deep. 'The rumor running around Labour MPs was that he would be offered a knighthood for his vote on 42 days,' said one MP who knows him. 'I think he wants to be a knight. He sees that it's unlikely he will ever be a minister again and he would like to be a peer of the realm. Whether after yesterday's disclosure such a dream is possible now seems doubtful.

Ms Blears's lamentable comment graphically illustrates the problem. While the ordinary people of Britain are increasingly aghast at the way their country is being transformed by Islamism, the political, judicial, security and intellectual left wing elites are busy denying the nature of the danger and making it far, far worse through a combination of extreme ignorance, arrogance and sheer funk, or a conspiracy which is yet to be revealed.

The Islamists will launched their attack from within against the West because they perceive correctly it is so weak, grasping and confused it does not possess the wherewithal. strength and interest to defend itself. When it came to dealing with the English, the Islamic strategy has been faultless, using the confusion, greed, and multiculturalism ethos within England as a weapon against itself… not very much else

France has denied citizenship to a veiled Moroccan woman on the grounds that her 'radical' Islam is incompatible with French values, a legal ruling revealed. The case will re-ignite debate about how to reconcile religious freedom with other rights, which many in France feel are being challenged by the way of life of some Muslims. Le Monde newspaper said it is the first time a Muslim applicant had been rejected because of personal religious practice. 'She has adopted a radical practice of her religion, incompatible with essential values of the French community, particularly the principle of equality of the sexes,' said a ruling by the Council of State. Schoolboys punished with detention for refusing to kneel in class and pray to Allah

Two schoolboys were given detention after refusing to kneel down and 'pray to Allah' during a religious education lesson. Parents were outraged that the two boys from year seven (11 to 12-year-olds) were punished for not wanting to take part in the practical demonstration of how Allah is worshipped. They said forcing their children to take part in the exercise at Alsager High School , near Stoke-on-Trent –( England ) which included wearing Muslim headgear - was a breach of their human rights.

Every crevice in England holds a Muslim.

'He's a liar, a cheat and a coward,' says police chief Tarique Ghaffur's first wife

And now Assistant Commissioner Ghaffur, risen to become Britain 's highest ranking Muslim officer, is launching a racial discrimination case against his employers ( for £500.000 ) the Metropolitan Police. His action has provoked both consternation and deep depression on the executive 8th floor of New Scotland Yard. In what seems to be a carefully orchestrated attack, Ghaffur's threat coincides with the industrial tribunal of another high-ranking Muslim officer, Commander , (another £half million) who claims to have been passed over for further promotion by the Met Commissioner, Sir Ian Blair. Hussain accuses Sir Ian of surrounding himself with a 'golden circle' of white officers and is quite emphatic in his view that England should immediately fall under Sharia law and he was the person to "enforce" this. It was discovered that Himmler is his role model

Met Chief faces Muslim officer's 'dossier of racial discrimination'

Deliberate leaks suggest that Ghaffur, whose contract runs out next year, will also accuse his weak and isolated boss of being actively racist. The same sources say that the one-time Ugandan refugee has a dossier of incidents, culminating in him being removed from a prestigious Olympics security job. Outraged at the smear, the almost pathologically politically correct Sir Ian wants to remove Ghaffur from his desk and deported but has been blocked from doing so. Mediation, due to start next week, will surely fail. Sources say there is now no chance of Ghaffur getting a contract extension, however, this is expected to create another explosive situation with the Muslims. Initially with a mass rally in Trafalgar square. (Which they want renamed)
Home Office quite reasonably view that Ghaffur, 53, had been promoted as far as his capabilities allow - if not further. It is not racism that holds him back, but ability. One person who knows his character extremely well is this middle-aged sub-post-mistress, the first Mrs Ghaffur. Another Asian Muslim immigrant from east Africa, she has not been able to follow every twist and turn of Ghaffur's recent career as her working hours are long and the memories painful. But she does know that the man to whom she was once married has risen to become a very important policeman indeed.

Talks between the Met and Assistant Commissioner Tarique Ghaffur over claims of racial discrimination have collapsed after he demanded a leading legal figure to chair the mediation process. Names in the frame included Cherie Blair and Lord Falconer, but it is believed the force vetoed the idea for fear of cost. Mr Ghaffur's representatives today issued formal proceedings for an employment tribunal. He is claming £500.000.
A protracted legal battle that threatens the leadership of Commissioner Sir Ian Blair now looks likely with Mr Ghaffur, the Met's third most senior officer, alleging he has been sidelined and undermined in his role.

Shahrokh Mireskandari, an Iranianborn solicitor at the firm Dean & Dean, says the SRA - which investigates misconduct complaints against solicitors - has hounded him and his firm for years.

Britain's top policeman is to be questioned following allegations that Scotland Yard contracts worth more than £3million were awarded to a firm run by a close personal friend.Sir Ian Blair will be grilled by officials on the Metropolitan Police Authority, which employs him, over claims of a potential conflict of interest relating to his links with entrepreneur Andrew Miller. The Met Commissioner and Mr Miller have enjoyed several skiing holidays together. The investigation will centre on how Mr Miller, 54 – who has known Sir Ian for 30 years – came to be awarded a series of lucrative technology deals by the Metropolitan Police.

Former chair of Bar Council calls for sharia rules in English law

His comments follow the controversial speech this week by Mr Hockman who gave his approval to the use of sharia law for deciding family and marriage disputes and mediating in arguments among Muslims. In February, Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams ran into difficulties after proposing that Islamic law should have a role in Britain . Control in Britain . Mr Hockman said: 'Given the world situation and our own substantial Muslim population, it is "vital??" that we look at ways to integrate Muslim culture into our own traditions……..'
